To Comic Con! (2013 Edition)

Comic-Con International starts tonight and runs through Sunday, and as usual, Speed Force will be there to provide you with Flash-centric coverage.

Covering the Con

I’ll be onsite Thursday and Friday, tweeting and sharing photos from the floor, and posting photos nightly to Flickr. I’ll also be participating in SDCCBlog’s photo & video event on Google+. Watch for live coverage in the following places:

Sadly, I won’t be able to make the Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox premiere on Friday evening. If you’re going to be at the con, plan on catching the premeire, and would like to write up the after-screening discussion panel, please let me know through the contact form. Thank you!

Downtime on Thursday

In a case of unfortunate timing, our web host will be doing scheduled maintenance on Thursday, so the site will be down for about an hour sometime between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm Pacific time. I’ve set up a static mirror, so the front page and existing articles should stay up, but commenting and new articles won’t be available during that time. Sorry, no liveblog of the DC All Access panel.

New 52 Gets Animated in Justice League: War, Flash Cast

With Comic-Con International on the verge of taking over the comics press cycle and fan collective mind for the next week, DC Comics has announced their next animated feature after Flashpoint Paradox: Justice League: War in 2014, based on the first storyline in the New 52 Geoff Johns/Jim Lee Justice League series.

This is the first New 52 storyline to be adapted to animation. Some of the voice case has been announced, including Chris Gorham (Covert Affairs, The Batman) as the Flash.

Flash Fans At The Most Interesting Times…and Places

Today, I stopped by my favorite LCS, Ultimate Comics in Durham, North Carolina, to get in on a book signing and to say farewell to one of the folks signing books…Jason Strutz, who is moving to Michigan. Jason provides the colors for a book published by Action Lab’s Danger Zone mature readers imprint, called “Ehmm Theory”, written by Brockton McKinney and penciled/inked by Larkin Ford…and all of them were on hand today. For those who aren’t familiar with this title…look it up, this is a delightfully bizarre series and loads of fun to read.

What does this have to do with the Flash? Hang on, I’m getting to that.

The cover for “Ehmm Theory” #1 conveniently leaves room for additional sketching…and while I tried to think of something to request, Jason (who knows that I write for SpeedForce) interrupted with the perfect idea for a title like this…a monster version of the Flash! That started up some Flash-related conversation, and we found that the writer of the series, Brockton McKinney, is a big Flash fan…and follower of this site! At the end of the day I have a great cover (below – click on it and you’ll get a better pic of The Flash) and enjoyed getting to talk to indie creators who also enjoy reading about The Fastest Man Alive. Here’s a couple of pics for you (I’m the old guy in the blue shirt)…enjoy!

Flashy iPad Billboard

A few months back, I saw this iPad billboard out of the corner of my eye and thought of this Jay Garrick/Golden Age Flash statue.

Apple has since rolled out a summer version of the same ad, which gives you an idea of how long it took me to post this.

Trinity War Starts NOW! (Review of Justice League #22)

Every universe-spanning event has to have a trigger event, and the first major spark of “Trinity War” is found right here in Justice League #22. This is a credible start – not as awe-inspiring as Crisis on Infinite Earths but certainly better than watching Libra kill Martian Manhunter in Final Crisis. Whether this will be a great series or something a little more forgettable has yet to be decided…but there are a few highlights…and low lights…to be found in this initial chapter:
