Amanda Pays Returns as Dr. Tina McGee on THE FLASH

Some surprise casting news: the Flash TV Show has officially added the role of Dr. Tina McGee, a regular from the early days of Wally West’s solo Flash comic and co-star of the 1990 TV Flash series…and they’ve got Amanda Pays back to play the character! (via CBR.)

Rather than a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs, this version of Dr. McGee works for a rival firm.

“When we decided to bring Tina onto our version of ‘The Flash,’ who better to get than the amazing actress who originated the part?” “Flash” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg is quoted by Variety. “Like with John Wesley Shipp, we are so proud and excited to have another actor from the original series join us on our new adventures for Barry Allen.”

No word yet on which episode she’ll appear in, or whether the role is intended to be recurring.

Flash: Seazon Zero #1 Hits Monday – Preview Up Now

Flash Season Zero Chapter 1 CoverDC has released a preview of Flash: Season Zero #1 through USA Today, along with an extensive article about the digital-first comic set in the TV series continuity.

The first arc features a group of circus performers turned supervillains by the particle accelerator incident (it sounds like a lot of villains get their powers this way). They’ll be taking advantage of the comic book format to do more elaborate visuals and “outlandish villains” that they’d never be able to get away with on a TV budget. There will also be hints about the TV show sprinkled throughout the series.

The circus troupe is apparently inspired by a group from Starman. “The few times especially on Arrow where we’ve tried to create our own villains, it hasn’t always worked out the best for us,” Kreisberg remarked, going on to say that even the smallest connection to an existing comic book character gives them something more solid to build from.

Flash: Season Zero will release a new digital chapter biweekly on Mondays, alternating with Arrow: Season 2.5. Print editions will follow the next month, with issue #1 hitting the shelves October 1, a week before the TV show debuts.

Hot off the Presses: Heat Wave Cast in THE FLASH TV Show

The Hollywood Reporter brings the news that Dominic Purcell has been cast as Heat Wave…and he’ll be teaming up with Captain Cold in Episode 10!

Captain Cold debuts in episode four, and is played by Wenworth Miller. Amusingly, the two actors last worked together on the show Prison Break, where they played brothers…appropriate given the almost sibling rivalry that Heat Wave and Captain Cold tend to display. (via Flash TV News)

You Can Now Subscribe or Pre-Order Flash: Season Zero

Flash Season Zero VariantComiXology now has the digital-first comic Flash: Season Zero in its catalog. The first issue, scheduled for September 8, is available for pre-order, and the series is available for subscription.

And hey…that art style looks familiar, doesn’t it? We know previous Flash artist/writer Francis Manapul is doing a variant cover for #1, so chances are this is part of that cover.

Flash TV Quick Hits: Girder Cast

Hypable reports that actor Greg Finley has been cast as Girder in the upcoming Flash TV series. He’ll apparently appear in episodes 6 and 7, the latter which he’ll share with Clock King.

Girder gets his powers from the same particle accelerator accident that empowers Barry, and the two have a lifelong connection: Girder used to bully Barry when they were children. After the accident, he learns that he can “transform his skin into living metal”, and utilizes his new abilities for crime. (Assuming this description is accurate, it sounds like his TV incarnation will be more like Colossus than comicsverse Girder.)

Finley has appeared on such shows as Star-Crossed and The Secret Life Of The American Teenager.
