Flashpoint Digital Discount

It must be a week for sales. ComiXology is holding a 3-day Flashpoint sale this weekend, offering each issue of Flashpoint, its related miniseries and one-shots, and the Booster Gold tie-in issues for just 99 cents. That’s the whole thing for around $30, the cost of two trade paperbacks.

For the most part, I’ve already read what I wanted of Flashpoint. (Well, technically, I’ve read more than what I wanted, for the sake of completeness. I really could have done without Legion of Doom) But I think I may pick up Batman: Knight of Vengeance. From what I hear, a lot of fans agree that it’s the best of the lot.

Results: Favorite Flash Stories of 2011

The results are in! Here are readers’ favorite Flash stories from 2011, as voted on at twtpoll:

Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s current New 52 storyline, “Mob Rule,” is the clear winner, with Flashpoint taking a solid second-place spot and the DC Retroactive: The Flash 1980s special a respectable third. the 1990s Retroactive book and Flashpoint: Kid Flash Lost round out the top 5, with the rest of the stories — including the second half of the Geoff Johns’ run on the regular series — barely represented at all.

Flashpoint Week at Collected Editions

The Collected Editions blog is focusing on Flashpoint this week with reviews of two Flashpoint collections from the perspective of a trade-waiter. For those of us who read new comics on a month-to-month basis, it’s worth stepping back and considering how differently these read when you read a series in the form of one or two collections a year.

Flashpoint Paperback & Tie-In Collections in March

Also in DC’s February solicitations: the titles and contents of the Flashpoint tie-in collections, all coming in March.

Oddly, DC has decided to organize their collected editions around major characters, rather than the “Whatever happened to…” themes they used to announce the miniseries to begin with. This makes for some strange combinations — Secret Seven isn’t remotely related to Batman, for instance — but The World of Flashpoint Featuring The Flash is exactly what you would expect: Kid Flash Lost, Citizen Cold, Reverse-Flash, Grodd of War, and Legion of Doom.

This Week: Flash #2 Preview & Flashpoint HC

DC has released a preview of this week’s The Flash #2 at, of all places, Maxim. (DC has been plugging its new comics all over the mainstream press these last two months, rather than simply sending the previews to the comics press. Issue #1 was previewed at USA Today, for instance. Co-writer Brian Buccellato jokes that it’s “all about the exposure.”) Teen Titans #2 also ships this week, featuring Kid Flash. Finally, the hardcover collection of Flashpoint arrives in comic stores this week, and bookstores next week.

Newsarama has posted the first part of a two-part interview with Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, and we have the Greg Capullo variant cover.

DC Universe 176pg. Color Hardcover $22.99 US

Update (Wednesday): DC’s blog says it’s out next week, but their main website still lists Oct. 26. Actually, it refers to the “wide release” – so maybe they mean to the bookstore release. It’s still morning here, so it’ll be hours before I make it to the comic store today to see for myself whether they have it or not.
