This Week: Digital Smallville & Flash of Two Cities

The next digital chapter of Smallville Season 11: “Haunted” guest-starring Impulse arrives on ComiXology on Friday.

Today, two more issues of the 1987-2009 Flash series starring Wally West are available digitally.

Flash #122-123: Keystone City decides that it can no longer handle the cost of property damage from the Flash’s battles, and want him to leave town. The seaside town of Santa Marta, California, however, would love to have their own super-hero. And who better than the Flash to be a super-commuter?

Flash #123: Flash of Two Cities

The cover and title are, of course, an homage to the classic “Flash of Two Worlds” in the first Flash #123.

One thing that surprised me here is that, up until now, DC and ComiXology have been re-releasing the series in sequence. After an initial release of a dozen or two issues by theme, they started with #1 and have been working their way forward, filling in and around those issues that have already been released. Last time, they jumped straight from #115 to #120, skipping the last three issues of “Race Against Time” and the “Final Night” tie-in issue. I wondered if they might be jumping back to fill in the gap this week, but that isn’t the case, at least not yet.

I asked ComiXology about it, and they said that DC simply hadn’t sent them those issues yet. I haven’t heard back from DC.

Vibe vs. Kid Flash for April WT(K)F

Vibe #3

CBR has revealed the Vibe #3 fold-out cover…and it features Vibe vs. Kid Flash!

“What is the one super power that is more than a match for Vibe and how can it tear the universe apart?” Now we know…though considering that Vibe was apparently picked for the JLA to counterbalance the Flash’s powers, it should have been clear already.

Vibe #3 is written by Sterling Gates (Flashpoint: Kid Flash Lost) with a cover by Brett Booth.

Flash Advances to Semi-Finals in Injustice: Battle Arena & Action Figure News

injustice-gods-among-us-08

Hey Speed Readers,

We’ve had a busy last few days when it comes to Flash news. First the final fate of Wally West in Young Justice and now some Injustice: Gods Among Us video game news.

First off, the creators behind Injustice, Netherrealm Studios, have been running a tournament called Injustice Battle Arena for the last few weeks. In it DC characters face off against each other with fan votes deciding the outcome. The Flash has already trounced Captain Marvel (or Shazam! ugh), and in a big shock this past week The Flash pulled off a huge upset against insanely popular Batman foe, The Joker.

Flash in Video Games Part 4: Mortal Kombat vs. DC and MUGEN

Today’s guest post is by Colin Crebs.

In continuing anticipation of Injustice: Gods Among Us coming next month, let’s have a look at the Flash’s appearance in 2 more tournament fighting games, Mortal Kombat v. DC Universe (“MKvDC”) on Xbox360 and PS3, and the fan-made MUGEN on PC.

Mortal Kombat vs. DCU: Flash punching Quan Chi

Pictured above: The Flash punching out Quan Chi with the psychic aid of Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat v. DC Universe. The story that just had to be told.

For a quick demonstration of the Flash in MKvDC, here is a video of the Flash’s Kombo Challenge where he beats down Captain Marvel.

As you will see there, the Flash is super cool in Mortal Kombat v. DC Universe. All of his moves have a beautiful motion blur and multiple hits. This makes him a blast to play, as you can rack up big combos effortlessly and dash around the screen instantaneously to really make it look like you’re toying with your opponent. Speed is the Flash’s thing, in both his normal attacks and special moves, which sets him apart from something like his appearance in Justice League Task Force. For once, a speedster character is done right in a tournament fighting game. I would even call it monumental.
