Flash of Two Worlds – TV Style!

Flash of Two Worlds - TV Style

CW has released the first photo of Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick – in the ever-classic style of a “Flash of Two Worlds” homage cover!

The image was released at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour.

Who else is excited to see Jay Garrick coming to TV? What do you think of his live-action look?

Update: DC’s site talks a little about Flash #123 (Carmine Infantino & Gardner Fox) and its legacy as the book that introduced the multiverse to DC Comics.

SDCC: JMS to write Flash: Earth One

J. Michael Straczynski announced at Comic-Con that he’ll be writing The Flash: Earth One graphic novel. As CBR reports:

Straczynski told a packed room of around 300 fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego that “Flash: Earth One” will focus on the Barry Allen version of the speedster. The graphic novel, he said, should be on shelves in 2016, and will feature the fourth franchise to make the leap to the OGN line which JMS helped launch with “Superman: Earth One.”

“It’s a very different take on the character,” he promised. To convince the audience of his enthusiasm for the character, he described how when he was a kid he repeatedly used to practice catching a falling glass of water because he saw the Flash do it in a comic.

No artist has been announced yet.

The “Earth One” series is built around original graphic novel series instead of monthly comics. The current DC You books are mostly set on Earth-Zero (with a few obvious exceptions like Earth-2: Society, Prez and the recently-announced Superman: Lois and Clark series. Two volumes of Superman and one each of Batman and Teen Titans are available now, with Wonder Woman and now Flash on the way.

Update: Also announced at SDCC: Francis Manapul will be writing and drawing Earth One: Aquaman!

Flash: Divergence Sneak Peek

flash-divergence-preview-splashpageDC has an eight page preview of the post-Convergence direction of the Flash in which we see Barry Allen’s new costume, his new living situation (with a surprise roommate), plus a reminder of his family history…which looks like it may be important, now that Professor Zoom (the Reverse Flash) is back — and the Professor has brought his students along.

I’m not sure if this is part of the upcoming The Flash #41 or if it’s an independent preview.

According to Brett Booth on Twitter, this is a stand-alone preview that is not part of The Flash #41.

The Flash Gets Mopee(z)

Apparently Funko has a line of plush toys called Mopeez. They’re adding a set of DC Mopeez in August built around the idea that “Even your favorite DC superheroes have bad days!”

Flash Mopeez

It reminds me a bit of Super Emo Friends, only without the clever captions.

But the name….

MopeeLong-time Flash fans may have heard the name Mopee, or might remember the “Heavenly Helpmate” in Flash #167 (1967) who claimed to have given Barry his powers by directing the lightning bolt at the window…only to learn later on that he’d screwed up because Barry didn’t own the chemicals himself. Barry agreed to earn the money to buy the chemicals as the Flash, in order to keep his powers.

The story was so widely reviled that it was quietly forgotten and never mentioned again in canon. Who’s Who spared one sentence to explicitly reject it. Eventually in-jokes started to show up. An Ambush Bug story had him claim to be responsible for a half-dozen other superheroes’ origins. Another story had “mopee” as the nickname of a street drug. But mostly the character has become a label for the kind of retcon that’s so bad that it’s retconned away just as quickly.

Free Fall In Scarlet or You Will Believe A Flash Can Fall! (Skydiving 04/27/2015)

“Free Fall In Scarlet” or “You Will Believe A Flash Can Fall!”

Hey Speed Readers/Viewers

So a few weeks back I celebrated my 30th birthday and to mark the special occasion I decided to try my hand at skydiving. Of course being Flash Johnson I couldn’t simply jump out of a plane…I had to do it in style! So to that end I decided to rock my brand new, CW Flash suit 2.0, with my favorite
Flashy footwear, my Adidas Wings 2.0. I figured they were more than appropriate for what I was doing and I didn’t want to ruin my slick new Flash boots.

Why skydiving? Well, after reading the William Messner-Loebs penned The Flash v2 #54, “Nobody Dies” (aka “Free Fall in Scarlet!”) many, many years ago I got it in my head that I needed to jump out of a plane in a frackin’ Flash suit.
