DC Reveals Details on Upcoming ‘Flashpoint Paradox’ Feature (via Newsarama)

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation released new details this week on their upcoming feature Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox exclusively to Newsarama.  In addition to the release formats and confirmation of some casting details, the news came with the official description and the first image from the film.  Check it out below!

When time travel allows a past wrong to be righted for The Flash and his family, the ripples of the event prove disastrous as a fractured, alternate reality now exists where a Justice League never formed, and even Superman is nowhere to be found. Teaming with a grittier, more violent Dark Knight and Cyborg, Flash races to restore the continuity of his original timeline while this new world is ravaged by a fierce war between Wonder Woman’s Amazons and Aquaman’s Atlanteans. With breath taking action and an all-star voice cast, it’s a bold, emotional vision that will forever change the landscape of the DC Universe.

Given the outcome of the Geoff Johns/Andy Kubert series, could this mean future DC animated features will be set in the New 52 universe? What moments from Flashpoint are you most looking forward to seeing brought to (animated) life?

The movie is due to be released July 30, 2013.  Check out the full details, including early casting information, over at Newsarama!

Barry Sounds A Little Like…Someone Else (Review of Justice League #18)

justice league 18Justice League #18 begins a story arc centering on Cyborg, with interesting parallels to some pre-Flashpoint tales.  But, rather than Batman having files on all the heroes in the DCU, it is now Cyborg who has been tracking and filing info on every hero operating in the New52.  While this is most useful in sending invitations to potential League members, there is always some danger in keeping those kinds of files…and that obviously will lead us into the next few issues of JL.  The moments of most interest to Flash fans, however, concern Wal…I mean Barry’s interactions with the other League members and with the potential members invited to the Watchtower.

Quick Hit: Superman Unbound to feature Flashpoint Sneak Peek

Flashpoint #1 Cover (first look)Spinoff Online reports that among the special features included in the upcoming Superman Unbound animated feature is a preview of the next film in the series, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.

I’m still of mixed feelings on this. On one hand, we finally get a Flash-centric animated feature. On the other hand, it’s basically a Flash/Batman story (and personally I didn’t like Flashpoint itself much), and now the Flash has even been demoted from the title.

As far as adapting a reboot? Most of the story isn’t about rebooting, and I still think that the conversion to the New 52 was tacked on at the end. Back when this was first hinted at last April, I noted that if you take out that double-page spread with Pandora and change the costumes in the epilogue, Flashpoint is back to being a standalone story.

New Flash in the Beyond-verse (and Wally, too!) (Review of Justice League Beyond Ch.20)

JLU 20The latest digital-first chapter of Justice League Beyond continues the introduction of Danica, the new Flash of the Beyond-verse.  She finally fights alongside the Justice League…but can she succeed where the rest of the League has failed?  And, where does Wally West fit into this?
